Scenes from a neighborhood market, Act One
Today was the first day I went to the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market, which is silly considering I live only a few miles away. I'd been meaning to check out this runner-up cousin to St. Pete's wildly popular and much larger Saturday Morning Market, and I can at least tell you that Gulfport's is a) much more low-key and serene and b) attracts an "older" crowd - mostly retiree-age.
There were lots of goodies to see and buy. It was sweltering as the noon hour approached, but the air was scented with handmade soaps, bread, candles, cupcakes and pies, and of course, fresh fruit and veg. I picked up a lime, a mango (on sale) and a green bell pepper. Yes, I know, but I'm the only one in the house who eats that stuff, so I needed to keep it to a minimum (if it's green, my hubs will not eat it).
Plus, in my next post, I'll share the awesome goodies I scored at the clothing swap (which is held once monthly at the Market). For now, check out my pix! Click to enlarge 'em!

Is this the same sidewalk chalk artist who does all of the stuff at the sat morn market? I love that guy!
I believe it's the same guy, yes. He has great penmanship.
I'm catching up on blogs and read this again and then was surprised that I already read it and totally forgot it. Good Lord. I went to the Gulfport Fresh Market for the very first time Last week and loved it...Not much but I did manage to support a few local artists and simply love that entire area of Gulfport. I was fascinated by this old lady's hemp cord and commented on it (yes, older than me and I'm 59) She says "if you get tired of it you can always smoke it." I almost peed laughing. Love those old signs (Come Out and Play)
